The
Sapphire Collection
These are our sapphire strands. Due to demand email us to verify supply by using our feedback form. The four C's of colored gems (rubies, emeralds, topaz, sapphires, etc.) is color, color, color, and color! The finer and the rarer the color, the less impact cutting, clarity and carat weight will have on the value of the gem. Information about Sapphires Sapphires can be found in greater quantities in larger stones than rubies. Therefore, the price of a large sapphire will not compare to that of the same size ruby. Sapphire is the blue variety of corundum. Sapphire color ranges from blackish blue to pastel shades, yellow, green and blues with violet hues. Pink sapphires are actually rubies (therefore it is a misnomer). The ideal color for sapphires is a bright blue. Inclusions are as a rule less obvious in very dark stones due to their lack of transparency. Sapphires are usually given oval, rectangular or square and less frequently round cuts. As with rubies cabochon cut is presently used for stones full of inclusions. Sapphires have a striking luster. Corn-flower to deep blue stones without obvious visible inclusions is characteristic of the rare sapphires from Kashmir. Today most sapphires are mined in Australia, which has numerous mines of deeply colored stones. The majority of the stones from these mines are too dark and in most cases have blue-green hues. The finest sapphires are those weighing several carats. These large stones are almost as valuable as diamonds and rubies. This is particularly true for sapphires originating form Kashmir (production in this area has come to a halt due to the country's political instability) Burma, (Ceylon) Sri Lanka, Cambodia and Thailand. Sapphires which are too dark, blackish or greenish blue in color or too pale fall sharply in price. Inclusions that are obvious to the naked eye also lower the price of the stones. Small stones of less than a carat are usually well affordable and readily available. Finally, the country of origin can have an effect on the price of sapphires. If you purchase a sapphire from Ceylon, Burma or Kashmir have this fact reflected on the bill of sale.
